Most rental disputes happen because the renter did not inspect the car at pickup. Two minutes of inspection saves hours of argument later.
The Checklist
- Walk around the car — Check all four sides. Point out every scratch or dent and make sure it is noted in the agreement before you sign.
- Check the fuel level — Confirm the fuel gauge matches what is written in the agreement.
- Test the tyres — Look for uneven wear, low pressure, or visible damage.
- Check all lights — Headlights, tail lights, indicators, hazards. A non-working light is a traffic challan waiting to happen.
- Take a walkaround video — Date-stamped evidence of the car's condition protects you completely.
